Virginia Mcconathy

Virginia LaVerne Adams McConathy, 96, passed away August 20, 2022.

Funeral services:  11:00 a.m., Thursday, at Aledo Church of Christ, 201 FM 1187, Aledo, Texas 76008. Visitation: 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral service.  Burial: Aledo-Brown Cemetery.

Virginia was born November 23, 1925, in Childress, Texas, the second of three children of the late Edgar Allen and Montie Ray Clements Adams.  She was the valedictorian of her senior class at Carey High School in Carey, Texas, and went on to complete her education at Brantley College School of Business in 1943.  She then, at the age of 18, began her career with Consolidated Vultee, now known as Lockhead Martin.  During this time, she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and soloed at the age of 19.

Virginia married James Guy McConathy on October 29,1949 and made their home in Parker County. They were married for 67 years.  Virginia was a longtime member of the Aledo Church of Christ where she taught first and second grade and was an active member in the ladies’ ministry.

In later years she began a new career for R.E. Cox and Company as their personal shopper “Janelle Worth” for 13 years.  Virginia was awarded the 1980-81 Employee of the Year.  She had customers from all over the world and loved helping them with their needs.

While raising four children, she was a Scout Leader, 4H Leader, and member of the County Home Demonstration Club.  In her spare time gardening was her passion.

Upon retirement Virginia loved traveling with her husband in their Airstream Trailer making lifetime friends from Texas to the Artic.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, husband, Jimmy, and son, Micheal.

Survivors:  Children, Patti Johnson and husband, Eric of Nacogdoches, Kim McConathy of Houston, and Mark McConathy of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Shannon Graham and husband, Woody of Denton, Jamie Johnson of Nacogdoches, Paige Knight and husband, Justin of LaFayette, and Jessica Harris and husband, Jordan of Nacogdoches; great-granddaughter, Madilyn Rae Harris of Nacogdoches; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loving family and church friends.
