Stephen "Steve" Grant of Fort Worth, Texas peacefully passed away May 4, 2023.  Steve was born in Chicago, Illinois to Andrew and Jane (Wilbur) Grant.  He grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois with his two siblings, neighborhood friends, and his best pal, Secret.

Upon marrying Jeannie in 1968 Steve found himself with a second family.  He became a son to the late Harry and Barbara Whittinghill, and a brother to Dennis, Diana, and Judy.  Steve was loved by the whole family and his passing will leave a void in all of our lives.

Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who had a nickname for everyone.  He looked forward to time spent with his daughter, son-in-law, grandson, nephews, nieces, and diligently worked to instill in them the love for an adventurous life and a tolerance for the importance of an education.  Steve had an amazing memory and told entertaining stories that sometimes may have earned three Pinocchios, as his brother would say.

His love of Science that he discovered at Westmar College lead to a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee, followed by a postdoctoral at John’s Hopkins Medical School. He trained as a research assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at MD Anderson Cancer in Houston prior to joining UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas.  Not only did he love Science he loved mentoring future scientists.  In November 2022 he was voted the Outstanding Graduate Faculty.  The honor was one of his proudest.  He ran his research lab like a family.  Because of this approach his students have all remained close to each other and him.

Steve is survived by his loving wife and life long best friend, Jeannie; daughter, Stephanie; son-in-law, Jason Cobb; grandson, Maxwell Cobb; brother, Phil Grant; sister, Janine Hayes; and beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A private Celebration of Life for Steve will be held for his family at a later date.
