Obituary

The world lost a beloved mother, grandmother, and Grandma the Great, Marguerite “Maggie” Hebert, on November 24, 2021. Maggie’s journey with  Alzheimers began seven years ago. She walked that path with grace and dignity and it never stopped her from giving out the best hugs and loving her family to the best of her ability. Maggie passed into Heaven surrounded by her children, Diane, Sharon, Mitch, and Lizzy. Maggie was born in Opelousas, Louisiana  on January 21, 1938. She was a longtime resident of Benbrook, Texas and was the First Lady there for six years during the time her husband, F.T. “Bear” Hebert presided as Mayor.

Maggie devoted herself to her family, but also served in the hospital industry in Louisiana and Texas. She later went into banking where she retired from the NCNB Texas in 1991. Her family is most proud of her faithful service to them and our country as she was a devoted, involved and amazing military wife for 26 years. Through multiple deployments and the challenges that come with a parental military career, she was the glue that held the family together and gave the growing children a steadfast foundation to stand on.

Maggie lived actively and stayed involved in many activities. Her favorite passions were gardening, painting, and music. Her green thumb was enjoyed by all family and neighbors as her multiple gardens were abundant. As an adult, she took painting classes and her family holds the gifts of her art as treasure. She also took keyboard lessons and shared her love of music with her great-grandchildren. A memory that is prevalent through each generation of her family is her talented Cajun cooking skills. Time spent in the kitchen and around the table with family remains as the sweetest of memories. Christmas holidays would not be Christmas without a bowl of gumbo.

Maggie is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Felix Thomas “Bear” Hebert; parents, Laurence and Ella (Richard) Bourque; her brothers, Herbert Bourque, Frank Bourque, Edmond Bourque, and Don Ray Bourque; and her sisters, Judy Ozeene and Janie Barry.

Maggie is survived by her sister, Rose Ryder; her brother, John Bourque; and her beloved children, Diane Yoder and husband, Steve, of Saginaw, Texas, Sharon Gouffray and husband, George, of Conroe, Texas, Mitch Hebert and wife, Karen, of Benbrook, Texas, and Liz Smith, and husband, Tim of Haslet, Texas; grandchildren, Britt McDougal, Jason Gouffray and wife, Jennifer, Vanessa Millhollan and husband, Beau, Lauren Barton, GySgt Brian Hebert and wife, Kari, Brad Hebert, Andy Smith and Brady Smith; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Korbyn, Cohyn, Cade, Harper, Logan, Maxwell, Hazel, Carly, Ryder, and Hank; and many loved nieces and nephews.
