April 12, 1923 — June 11, 2021

Lila E. Tarrant, loving mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep June 11, 2021.

Celebration of Life:  1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the new pavilion at Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche, Texas.

Lila was born April 12,1923 to Roy and Edna Grayson in Aleman, Texas, Hamilton County. She graduated with honors from Comanche High School in 1941. During World War II she worked in the laundry rooms at Camp Bowie near Brownwood, Texas.  There were two prisons within Camp Bowie, the Rehabilitation Center that restored men back to duty and the German Prisoner of War Camp. Lila could speak and write some German and thus was an invaluable employee and communicator.  Later in her life, Lila worked as a secretary for Dickies Industries for more than 20 years.

In February of 1983, she married Clarence Van “Van” Tarrant. They enjoyed many happy years until his passing in September of 2000.

Lila was the most gracious and loving person. She enjoyed traveling and took many memorable trips with her Young At Heart club. She especially looked forward every year to her “Spring Fling” with her sister, Kathy Grayson Tidwell, to photograph and find Texas wildflowers. The bluebonnet was her most favorite flower.  She totally mastered the domino game “42” and would play at any opportunity.  Friends fought over who would be her domino partner!

Lila loved her family and was a shining example of goodness and grace. Her almost lifelong devotion to her faith and her church family was her daily guiding light.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Van” Tarrant; her sons, Ronnie May and Alan May; her parents, Roy and Edna Grayson; sister, Vera Grayson Price; brother, Clyde Grayson who died in the Korean War; and brother, Leroy Grayson.

Survivors include her son, Kent May and wife, Elizabeth; sister, Kathy Grayson Tidwell; daughters-in-law, Susan May and Carla May; grandchildren, Christie May, Amy May Martin and husband, Kerry, Clinton May and wife, Amanda, Kyle May and wife, Ashlee, Jessica Sowder and husband, Rob, Emily May and partner, Jason Malm, and Marcus May and wife, Rhea; step-grandchildren, Erin Reese and husband, Billy, Lara Stewart and husband, Laine, Emily Moxley and husband, Justin; together with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
