Lee Jordan

June 3, 1936 — October 18, 2021

“Remember . . . the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.” (D&C 18:10)

Lee Ellsworth Jordan, 85, was among the sons and daughters of God who shouted for joy when the ‘morning stars sang together’ in anticipation of coming to earth to obtain his body, grow in faith, and experience mortality. He passed away peacefully October 18, 2021, at the home of his daughter, Zon, in Kaysville, Utah.

His birth was long awaited by his parents, Charles Alden Jordan and Violet Lucille Houts Jordan, on June 3, 1936, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His only sibling, Lew Alden Jordan, was 11 years older.

Miami, Florida would become his family’s residence until he graduated from high school. He was an ambitious child, always interested in learning. He enjoyed his high school years, singing in the choir, playing the accordion, enjoying choice friends, and meeting his eternal sweetheart, Mildred Jean DuBose. Drive-in movies, school dances, and lots of beach time filled their dating experiences. They married at the ripe age of 19 on August 12, 1955 (sealed in the LDS Mesa, Arizona temple June 21, 1961), and began growing their family: a son and three daughters, respectively. They were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where they served faithfully.

Lee was adventurous with his family and in the workplace. He earned his pilot’s license, spending most weekends using his interests for the benefit of his family. His career included, but wasn’t limited to, designing the fuselage for the first C-5A and mechanical systems for the Apollo Lunar Module (LEM). He participated in the British Petroleum franchise and ultimately retired from the National Park Service, which he loved as it kept him outdoors.

Lee is survived by his very devoted wife, Mildred Jean DuBose Jordan, and his children, Mark (Malinda) Jordan, Lu Ann (Mike) Crossley, Zon (James) Ellefsen, and Cindy (Roy) Lindsay; 19 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
