Kay Mcknight

July 19, 1946 — June 20, 2022

Fort Worth

Kay McKnight, 75, passed away peacefully at home and went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 20, 2022.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Kay was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on July 19, 1946, to Clyde and Louise McDonald. She graduated from Bossier City High School in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1964, where she also met her soulmate, Ed McKnight, and later married in Jacksonville, Arkansas, on June 12, 1964.  They had their only daughter, Beth, in 1965.  The U.S. Air Force moved them many places domestically as well as Germany before the family finally settled in Fort Worth in 1976.

Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, L.E. “Ed” McKnight; mother, Daisy Louise McDonald; father, Clyde Taulbert McDonald; sister-in-law, Joyce Ann “Jody” McKnight Thacker; brother-in-law, James Henry “Henny” McKnight; and brother-in-law, Sammy Ray McKnight.

She is survived by her loving sister, Sarah Jeanette McDonald; sister-in-law, Linda McKnight Trapp; daughter, Beth McKnight Gatlin, and husband, Vernon; grandson, Scot McKnight, and wife, Victoria (expecting first great grandchild January 2023); beloved cat, Carl; and many nieces, nephews, family friends, and church family.

Visitation:  5:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2022, at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126, followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 pm.  She will be placed with her husband, Ed, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice; the two nurses, Lisa, and Jennifer, from Heart to Heart who so lovingly and compassionately took care of Kay in those last few weeks at home; her pastor and his wife, Chris & Kelly Cobb; and most importantly, the person who would come daily and stay with Kay to allow us to go to work, Carla.  She would sit and hold her hand, sing gospel songs with her, let her tell her stories about growing up, and do all the caretaking items, but most importantly, she would just love on our mother/grandmother, and for THAT we can never thank her enough.

In memory and support, we would welcome, in lieu of flowers, donations by friends and family to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund at https://www.curealz.org/giving/donate . 100% of donations made to the charity go towards research.
