Johnny was born November 29, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas to Glenn Isham and Dorothy Marie Sandlin Isham. He attended West Handley Elementary, Handley Junior High, and Eastern Hills High School. As a young boy, Johnny's parents would load up their kids on Sunday and go to the Mansfield Hwy Flea Market. They would continue this tradition for many years.

After graduating from Eastern Hills High school in Fort Worth, he began working as an electrician. Johnny's dad, Glenn was an electrician and taught his sons, and several of their friends, the electrical trade. Johnny was one of those that followed that trade for 40+ years. He carried a certified electrician journeyman's license. Johnny worked for Blackburn Electric, Pruitt Electric and several others. He found his work home in 2005 with Walkcon, Ltd. He began as a superintendent for the company and was promoted to Project Manager in 2009. Johnny was passionate, dedicated and committed to his Walkcon family.

Johnny enjoyed squirrel hunting as a young boy and always loved fishing. Lake Arlington was nearby, and he spent many hours there through the years. In high school, Johnny and friends, Richard Gibson being one, would go to Kow Bell Arena in Mansfield. They once tried to convince Randy to go with them and try his hand at bull riding. Randy told Johnny “No Thanks”! Johnny loved to ride his Harley Davidson and enjoyed fishing. Above all else, he loved his family, especially his dogs, and his friends that became family.
