Drucilla Highland

August 22, 1937 — December 4, 2021

Benbrook

Drucilla “Dru” Burnside Highland, left us on December 4, 2021, to be with her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her family. She was born August 22, 1937, in Lancaster, Kentucky to the late Reverend Charles Burnside and Isabelle Lane Burnside. Dru was the youngest of nine children and grew up in Junction City, Kentucky. She graduated from Junction City High School in 1955 then began her career as a legal secretary. Over the decades, she supported many attorneys and always considered them as part of her “family”.

Dru moved to Fort Worth in 1983 and became a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church. She was known as “Granny” to all her grandchildren and their friends. Dru was deeply proud of each of her grandchildren and rarely missed hockey games, band and guard contests, graduations, and law school acceptance announcements. Dru always had her hands busy, quilting, knitting, or crocheting projects even when her vision and mind declined. She never missed the opportunity to cook a meal for friends and family and took joy in them enjoying her food.

Dru is preceded in death by her brothers, J.R., Earl, Ralph, Clyde, Joe, and Kayo Burnside; and her sisters, Dorothy Helen Burnside, and Ruth Grider.

She is survived by her children, Jon Marc Highland (Kendra), and Margaret Suggs (Bill); and her grandchildren, Meredith and Myles Adair, Hannah, Isaac, Hallie and Nate Highland.

Her family expresses their sincere thanks to Texas Home Health of Fort Worth, Texas, Bridgewater Memory Care of Granbury, Texas, and Alpha Omega Hospice of Weatherford, Texas, for their care and compassion that they gave mom as her health declined and she finished her journey.
