Shirley Spieckerman

d. March 19, 2015

FORT WORTH -- Shirley Joyce Ing Spieckerman made a very peaceful transition from this temporal realm on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the age of 83.
Celebration of life: 6 p.m. Sunday, March 29, in The Marty Leonard Community Chapel, 3131 Sanguinet St., Fort Worth.
Shirley had faced many health challenges, including metastatic breast cancer in 1991 and congestive heart failure in 2012, but fought back and kept going, often astounding her physicians. She continued to be a help and inspiration to her son, Lee Spieckerman and grandchildren, Elizabeth Christine Spieckerman and Stephen William Spieckerman. She is also survived by her daughter, Carol Spieckerman and many other beloved members of her extended family and friends.
Shirley was a masterful writer, art aficionado, artist, pianist, NY Times crossword conqueror, sentimental cynic, Dallas Cowboys fan, Fox News and "The Voice" devotee and inspirational mother and grandmother.
In 1973, Shirley oversaw media relations for the opening of the internationally renowned Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth and edited its acclaimed first catalog of the collection. She remained an executive with the Kimbell for several years. Previously, she had been copy chief for Jerre Todd & Associates advertising, where she played a key role in its work for the nationally televised Miss Teenage America Pageant and Colonial Golf Tournament.
Shirley received her undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and her master's degree from The University of Texas at Austin.
