Shirley Orfield

Shirley Matthews Orfield, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 26, 2018 after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Memorial service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126.
Born Shirley Ann Hayes on June 2, 1938 to Marshall Whitney Hayes and Norma Elizabeth Earl Hayes in Lyons, Michigan, she was the older of two girls. Her sister, Mary Hayes Smith, preceded her in death in 2006. After graduating from Lyons High School, Shirley attended Lansing Business College. She moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1962 with her husband, Gary A. Matthews, where they lived and raised their family until she moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1989 to be near her daughter. In 2009 she married Gary Orfield and relocated to Morgan, Texas where she lived until earlier this year when she returned to Fort Worth due to medical issues.
Shirley grew up in the Lyons Methodist Church and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico for 27 years and then Overton Park United Methodist Church in Fort Worth until 2009. At the time of her death she was a member of the Bosque County Cowboy Church. Shirley was a lifelong member of Eastern Star in Hobbs, New Mexico, Bethany Chapter 56.
Survivors: Shirley is survived by her daughter, Karen James Aguilar of Benbrook, Texas; two sons, Bryan R. Matthews and his wife, Tammy of Midland, Michigan and Jeffery A. Matthews and his wife, Amy of Haslett, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica, Tyler and his wife, Jordan, Logan, Dylan and his wife, Jessica, and Steven; one great-grandchild, Ezra; several nieces and nephews, as well many dear lifelong friends.
Shirley was a happy, cheerful woman, loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Friendly to all, she never knew a stranger. Though her struggles are now over and she is happy and at peace with her Lord, she will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
