Shirlene was born in Lake Creek, Texas, one of nine siblings. The family later settled in Shawnee, Okla. There she met and married the love of her life, Marvin, on her seventeenth birthday. She graduated from Shawnee High School the following spring of 1953. There followed many years of moving and raising two children as an Air Force wife. They settled in Benbrook in 1978 after Marvin's retirement from the military. Shirlene began working in retail sales at the Sanger-Harris department store at Hulen Mall. She worked at the same store as it became Foley's and then Macy's, for over 30 years. Throughout this time, she was an avid and award-winning bowler. After retirement, she also became more active in the women's activities in her church, amongst a group of very dear, devoted friends. But the most important aspect of her life was the deep love of her extended family and the grand hospitality she extended to them all.

Shirlene was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.

Survivors: Loving husband of 67 years, Marvin Doyel; children, Michael Doyel of Bedford, Texas and Vicki White of Oxford, Miss.; sister, Priscilla Reed; daughter-in-law, Lynda Doyel; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
