Richard Dyke

BENBROOK -- Richard E. "Dick" Van Dyke, 86, passed peacefully Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, in Plano.
Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Christ The King Church, 3290 Lackland Road, Fort Worth, the Rev. Darryl Pigeon officiating. Entombment: 1:30 p.m. in Greenwood Mausoleum, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road.
Memorials: Christ The King Church, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
Dick was born in Independence, Mo., on July 24, 1928, to Florence and Ernest Van Dyke. Dick attended William Chrisman High School in the Kansas City area and the University of Kansas. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Dick moved in 1956 with his family to Fort Worth where he was employed by General Dynamics for 38 years. As an international procurement specialist, he negotiated and administered F-16 subcontracts with co-producers and subcontractors in Israel, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. As an avid golfer, Dick was thrilled when he had the opportunity to attend the Ryder Cup in Europe and spent many a day walking the links near his home and around the world.
After retirement Dick became an active volunteer, having served on the vestry and as senior warden in his church. Dick and his wife, Pat, were honored to be recognized by the city of Benbrook as Benbrook's Volunteers of the Year. They were recognized by the Benbrook Police Department as the Citizens on Patrol Volunteers of the Decade.
Dick loved life and people. His smile and laughter will be missed by all who held him dear.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Sparks, whom he married in 1963; brother, Charles; and sisters, Betty Friday and Barbara Krahenbuhl.
Survivors: Daughters, Karen Jenkins and husband, Ron, and Janet Hixson and husband, Alan; his grandchildren, Kimberly Jenkins DeWeese and husband, Bainbridge, Ryan Jenkins, and Zachary Hixson and wife, Kelly; great-grandchildren, Parker and Jack DeWeese, and Zoey and Aiden Hixson; sister-in-law, Pat Van Dyke; brother-in-law, David Krahenbuhl; nephew, Ed Van Dyke and wife, Glinda; and many other loving family and friends.
