Muriel Cordes

FORT WORTH -- Muriel Morene Cordes, 78, passed gently on Thursday, May 1, 2014, into the arms of her Savior after courageously battling a lengthy illness.
Memorial service: 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army Northside Corps, 3023 N.W. 24th, Fort Worth.
Muriel was born in Clinton, Okla., where she met and married the love of her life, J.H. They moved to Amarillo where they started a landscape business and their family, and remained there until 1967 when they moved to Fort Worth. For most of her life she was a housewife and mother, and later she became a certified nursing assistant caring for the elderly in their homes until retirement. She was an active member of the Salvation Army Northside Corps in Fort Worth until her passing.
She was loving and caring companion to all who knew her.
Muriel was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, James Henry Cordes; her mother and father, Bernice Liberty Ruggles Shanks and Asa Hillard Shanks; and niece, Wendee Phillips.
Survivors: She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Cordelia Lou-Tresa Cordes-Botello and her husband, Hector Jaime Botello, of Fort Worth; three grandchildren, Justin Neal Cordes of Fort Worth and his two children, Stormy Cordes of Benbrook and Owen Cordes of Bastrop, Leslie Elizabeth Nicole Cordes of Dallas and her two children, Sera Cordes and Christian Cordes, and Wesley Alan Byrd and his wife, Jill Marie Byrd, of Maumee, Ohio, and their two children, Logan Byrd of Wisconsin and Madyson Byrd; brother, Robert Dale Shanks of Azle; niece, Angelia Williams and husband, Tom Williams, of Fort Worth, and their three children, Robert Gottlich, Olivia Williams and Jon Williams; and niece, Stormie Zanfino and husband, Mark Zanfino, of Watauga and their two daughters, Brittany Gonzalez and Hannah Littlejohn.
