Maxine Sargent

November 8, 1937 — July 27, 2021

Benbrook

Donna Maxine Sargent, 83, of Benbrook, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.

Maxine is survived and will be greatly missed by “the love of her life” Robert Duncan.  For over 27 years they enjoyed life together whether traveling, entertaining, or just relaxing at home together.

Maxine was born November 8, 1937, to James and Muriel Carter in Amarillo, Texas.  While Maxine was known to be stern, but fair, she also loved deeply.  She proudly wore the titles Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend with enthusiasm and pride.  She truly was one of the best!

Maxine had a spunky, quick witted personality that drew others to her. This trait led her to go after what would become another legacy.  It all began in a quaint little neighborhood bar on the westside, just off the traffic circle. A single mom of three took a chance in1977 and entered the “man’s world” of becoming a bar owner. What started out as The Three Palms soon became Maxine’s Three Palms, which she operated at that location until 1982. An opportunity arose to move her business just down and across 377 where she remained until December 2020. Several generations of families would congregate to enjoy pool, darts, music, and the coldest beer in town.

For over 43 years, that little bar was more than just a bar.  People found refuge in knowing it was a place they could gather. A place to celebrate the good times like the births of babies, weddings receptions, showers, birthdays, and more. A place to have a hot meal at Thanksgiving or Christmas when they had nowhere else to go or no one to celebrate with. Maxine always opened her doors and treated everyone as part of her extended family.  She had a heart of gold and always wanted to help others.  Her compassion and generosity were truly admirable.  She hosted many fundraisers to help others that faced challenges and while she gave freely, she did so behind the scenes.

Her family wants to thank everyone for the outpouring of support. If you want to do something special in her memory, just pay it forward – let her legacy continue on.

Maxine left behind several legacies, but her greatest one is her family.  Maxine is survived by her daughter, Renee’ Bene’ and husband, Roy of Benbrook; son, James Tipton and wife, Sherry of Aledo; son, Jeff Tipton and Sylvia Sam of Fort Worth; stepdaughters, Stephani Smith and husband, Roger of Burnet, and Cidney Sunvison and husband, Milton of Manor; grandchildren and their spouses, Roy Bene’ (Tammy), Jake Tipton, Christy Smith (fiancé Stewart Dodd), Josh Tipton (Amber), Kalee Roberson (Tanner), Lindsey Thompson (Marty) and Logan Sunvison; great-grandchildren, Mariah Barr, Tristin Bene’, Loryn Bene’, Gavon Dodd, Axl Dodd, and Daniel Roberson; sisters, Colleen Baylor and Gayle Steimle of Keizer, OR; her friends, loyal customers, and her dedicated bartenders whom she loved so much and also considered family.

A celebration of her life will be scheduled/announced later.
