Mary Catherine Shugart passed away in Fort Worth, Texas on August 2, 2022, at the age of one hundred years and six months.
Memorial service: 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4950 Williams Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126.
Catherine was born February 1, 1922, in Blanket, Texas. After raising her family in Fort Worth, she also lived in Oklahoma, Ohio, Colorado, and 20 years in Greenville, Texas. She returned to Fort Worth in 2009, where she attended the Ridglea congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She had been baptized as a Witness in 1955. Her love for Bible truth was the focal point of her life. She was a serious student of God’s Word as well as a capable teacher in her Christian ministry.
Catherine worked hard to care for her family, for many years on her own. Her work included taking in ironing, working in mail order at Montgomery Ward, upholstery for an interior decorator, office work for Buddies Supermarkets, and apartment management.
Catherine will be greatly missed for her undaunting faith, her hard work and self-sacrificing spirit, and her playful sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by all five of her siblings; as well as one daughter, Rena.
Catherine is survived by her son, Gary Lester of Louisiana; her daughters, Sharon Hughes of Colorado, Linda Addington of Texas, and Karen Bishop of Louisiana; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
