Mary Beth Dumke

After 81 years, Mary Elizabeth Dumke closed her eyes for the final time on August 12, 2026, in the comfort of her own home. Mary was born June 13, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Vern L. Smith and Mary E. Minor. She met her future husband, William ‘Bill’ A. Dumke, while still in high school dreaming of the days she’d finish school so they could marry and begin their lives together.

Mary began her career at the former Southwestern Bell, fondly referred to as “Ma Bell” in 1963, as a cord board operator. She then held several other positions before her retirement in 2002, after 39 loyal years. Mary Beth lived a quiet, private life with her beloved Bill until his passing in 2008. With a 44-year love affair, a long-lasting career, two children, and a deep love for animals, Mary Beth is now at rest.

Surviving are sons; William A. Dumke Jr. and wife Monica of Justin, Texas, Robert Dumke of Benbrook, Texas; three grandsons Andrew Dumke, Jakob Dumke and William A. Dumke III; brothers Vern L. Smith Jr. of Paradise, Texas and Lowell Allen Smith of Baxter, MN.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026 @ 11:00 A.M. at Winscott Road Funeral Home 1001 Winscott Rd, Benbrook, Texas, 76126.
