Loretta Frances Whanger Sisson, age 95, died on September 1, 2025, in Ft. Worth.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM on September 9, 2025, at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Loretta was born on April 20, 1930, in Richmond, Virginia. She was raised in Roanoke, Virginia and Greenbrier County, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Jefferson Senior High School in Roanoke, and attended Roanoke College in Salem Virginia. She earned her Registered Nurse Certification and later Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from the Medical College of Virginia (now Virginia Commonwealth University). Loretta then trained in nurse anesthesia at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was employed by the United States Public Health Service and Veterans Administration as a Nurse Anesthetist for more than thirty years.
Loretta was married for more than 33 years to Marvin D. Sisson, Jr of Monroe, Louisiana. They lived all their married life together in Texas, initially in the Houston-Galveston area and later in Arlington. Following Marvin's death in 1998, Loretta joined and participated in many local activities and Volunteer organizations. She was a faithful member of St. Barnabas Methodist Church in Arlington, and served as an usher at the Van Cliburn competition for many years. She taught Senior Computer classes at the Tarrant County College, served on the Senior Advisory Council and displayed her art at the yearly art shows. She was a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesia, the American Association of University Women, Order of the Eastern Star, the Arlington Area Newcomers Club and the Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents Ada Vera Wiley Whanger and Ernest Grant Whanger, and her sister Emma Mae Kaple.
Survivors include her brother Ernie Whanger of Altoona, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family express their gratitude to the staff of Trinity Terrace and Silverado Hospice for providing support and comfort to Loretta in her later years.
