Leora Marie (Sholtz) Pinder, 91, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, a result of a severe stroke. Leora was born November 25, 1929, in Vernon, New York, the first child of Craig and Marion Sholtz. She grew up attending the Verona Seventh Day Baptist church, and while in college made a commitment to follow Jesus. This was evident in the way she lived her life. She was married to Clayton Edward Pinder for 59 years before he passed away in 2013. Together they raised four children. In addition to welcoming numerous guests in their home, they often let people who needed help stay with them. Leora had been living at The Vantage Independent Living in Fort Worth since 2016.
Leora had a long, full life; quietly supporting and caring for people she knew. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, listening to Gaither music, gardening, playing games and finding a good recipe. You couldn’t know Leora without realizing how much she loved books! She graduated from Geneseo State Teacher’s College with a degree in Library Science, worked as a part-time librarian, did volunteer work in the church library, later worked on her Master’s degree at Salem College, and shared her love of books and reading with all of her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Sholtz.
She is survived by her four children, Carol (Allen) Swanson of Grand Island, NE; Susan (Dean) Fox, of Blacklick, OH; Edward (Cathy) Pinder of Benbrook, TX; and Lisa Benson of Port St. Lucie, FL; a sister, Janice Swerediuk, and brother, Loren Sholtz, both of Verona, NY; six grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and many others who loved her.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Verona Seventh Day Baptist Church, 6775 Blackmans Corners Road, Verona, NY 13478, in memory of Leora, for refurbishment of their stained-glass windows.
