Larry Cornett

BENBROOK -- Larry Mac Cornett, 79, went to be with his Lord on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.
Memorial service: A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 15 at Western Hills United Methodist Church, 2820 Laredo Dr., Fort Worth.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Western Hills U.M.C., 2820 Laredo Dr., Fort Worth, Texas 76116.
Larry was born on Jan. 9, 1937, in El Dorado, Kan., to Thelbert and Elizabeth Cornett. Soon he was big brother to Bob Cornett of Cresson, Texas. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in business, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He married Sally Joan Benson on Sept. 1, 1957. When his brother married Sally's sister Sandy, there were many family memories to be made with vacations, get-togethers, and shared grandparents. He worked for many years in the oil and gas industry as well as several family businesses. After the passing of his wife Sally, he found love again and married long-time family friend Harlene Barnes in 2001.
He was a resident of Fort Worth since 1972, and enjoyed many friendships with chapter Laureate Beta Zeta of Beta Sigma Phi and was a talented pianist.
Larry was an active member of Western Hills U.M.C. where he was a beloved and talented Sunday school teacher. He sang in the choir for many years and could be counted on to man the grill at any social or ministry events.
Larry enjoyed gardening, nature, geology, music, cooking, watching the Mavericks and Cowboys, and entertaining. One of his favorite things was hosting an annual Christmas Eve sing-a-long with family and friends filling his home. He had a quiet and unique way of encouraging people and extending generosity and hospitality to others.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally Cornett; and a grandchild, Salli Jane McEwin, and is survived by his wife, Harlene Sorrells Cornett; children, Laura and Michael Ruth, Alex and Teresa Cornett, Alicia and Bryan Sinner, Pam and Pat Dingler, Craig and Nicole Barnes; grandchildren, Jennifer and Paul McEwin, Callan Cornett, Nick and Kim Cornett, James and Sarah Humphries, Kara and Tripp Cashion, Brandon Sinner, Colleen and Jordan Matthews, Alecia and Vince Morrow, Michael Alexander Ruth, Eric Sinner, Deyton Dingler, David Ruth, Bennett Sinner, SarahGrace Ruth, Caden Barnes, Caleb Barnes, and Charis Barnes. Larry was a great-grandfather to seven children and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
