L.R. Winfrey, 96, of White Settlement, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2019.
Graveside services: 1:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 at Greenwood Memorial Park, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Visitation: Noon to 4:00 p.m., Friday at Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126. The family will be present for visitation from 5-7:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home to receive family and friends.
L.R. Winfrey was born January 16, 1923 in Durant, Oklahoma to Fannie Mae Harrison Winfrey and Roy Winfrey. After high school he served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp, and a flight engineer of the B-26 in San Antonio and Del Rio, Texas. After World War II, he worked at Powers Electric in Fort Worth, Texas. He later worked at the Botanical Gardens and the Zoo in Fort Worth, and then as a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. L.R. loved country music. He loved singing it, dancing to it, and playing it on a guitar, piano, keyboard, and harmonica.
L.R. was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Reba Dickson, and his brothers, Jean Winfrey and Dale Winfrey.
Survivors: Sister, Nadine Swindell of Midwest City, Okla.; youngest brother, Wendell Winfrey of McAlester, Okla.; three children, John Winfrey and wife, Marietta of Lawrence, Kansas, Greta Wade Vargas of Fort Worth, Texas, and Steven Winfrey of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
