Justin Levi Henington

January 11, 1978 — October 19, 2025

Justin Levi Henington, 47, passed away on October 19, 2025, in Monahans, Texas. Born on January 11, 1978, in Amarillo, Texas, Justin lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and a deep passion for the things he loved.

A proud Texan through and through, Justin served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1996 to 2004. Rising to the rank of E-4 Corporal, he forged lifelong bonds during his military service—including with his best friend, Justin Robinson. His time in the Marines was a defining chapter of his life and a source of enduring pride.

Justin was a dedicated family man whose heart belonged to his wife, Traci Hernandez. Together they built a blended and loving family that brought him immense joy. He was the proud father of Bailey Henington, Landry Henington, and Julian “Bubba” Henington. He also embraced his role as a bonus dad to Avery Hernandez, Karli Velazquez, Mya Velazquez, and Brittany Brown. His love for his children was unwavering and evident in every aspect of his life.

He is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Mona Lingle, and stepfather, Greg Lingle; brother, Ty Henington; sister, Shelly Borgstedte; and grandmother, Dorothy “Dot” Scarbrough. He is preceded in death by many loving family members, including his grandfather Ted Scarbrough, who was his greatest role model and dearest friend—and who no doubt welcomed him home with open arms.

Justin had an infectious enthusiasm for life’s simple pleasures. A true sports enthusiast, he cheered passionately for the TCU Horned Frogs, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Rangers. Whether it was game day or just another afternoon at home, he found joy in rooting for his favorite teams.

He also cherished time spent outdoors—especially days on the lake with family. These moments were among his happiest: surrounded by loved ones under open skies. Justin had a creative side as well; he enjoyed music and arts and crafts and found delight in sharing these interests with those around him.

A lover of humor and connection, Justin was known for his wit and his knack for making people laugh. He took great pride in creating memes that perfectly captured his sense of humor and had a soft spot for discovering treasures on Facebook Marketplace.

Justin had a heart as big as Texas—especially when it came to animals. He loved dogs deeply and could never turn away a stray, much to his family’s occasional dismay. His compassion for people and animals alike was a defining part of who he was.

Justin’s legacy is one of loyalty—to country, to family, and to the passions that made him who he was. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and strength to carry forward the values he held dear.
