Joel Smith

Joel Emery Smith, 68, of Granbury, Texas, was carried into the arms of his Heavenly Father on September 30, 2019.

Celebration of Life: 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2019 at First Christian Church of Granbury, 2109 W. Hwy 377, Granbury, Texas 76048.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, stjude.org.

Joel was born August 20, 1951 in Clarksville, Texas to Johnnie and Nita Emery Smith. His family soon moved to Midland and then Crane, Texas where Joel grew up and attended school. At an early age Joel began helping his father deliver Borden's milk to homes and businesses in West Texas. He continued to work in the milk business through most of his adult life as an electrician in several milk processing plants. He retired from Vandervoorts Dairy in Fort Worth in 2016. Joel also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971-1974.

He met and married Mary Beth Tennyson in 1974. Together they raised three beautiful children and were blessed with five amazing grandchildren, who have been the joy of their lives. Joel loved woodworking and electronics and was known to be able to "fix" just about anything, with his "southern engineering".

The family wishes to thank the many friends and family who stopped by, called, sent cards, and prayed for us in Joel's last weeks.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents, and a very special aunt, Carolyn Mullen.

Grandad, we will miss your quick smile and your loving, giving spirit, but we will hold you in our hearts forever and see you soon.

Survivors: Joel is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; their children, Jennifer Smith and fiance, Michael Ashby, Joel Brandon Smith and wife, Brandi, and Becky Waits and husband, Dirk; grandchildren, Lillian and Logan Fuller, Elliot and Zoe Cessac, and Jude Emery Waits; siblings and their spouses, Jackie and Johnny Griffin, Sherry and Eddy Pomroy, Joni and Dexter Tooke, and Scott and Jen Smith; and a loving extended family and friends.
