Jerry "Dad" was a constant “Work In Progress”. He was born August 8, 1948 in Muskegon, Michigan. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served numerous tours in South Korea. While he was stationed in Korea, he met the love of his life, Chong. They had to two children and two grandchildren. Dad served 22 years in the Air Force and retired at Carswell AFB. Continuing to make “progress”, Dad transitioned to the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He then moved to the Federal Bureau of Printing & Engraving where once again, he continued to make progress and entered the apprenticeship program to become a Master Pressman. He continued to work at the Bureau serving as Union Vice President until his retirement in 2015.
Dad excelled and thrived at fixing things. He loved working on cars and he spent many hours together with his sons under the hood. He was never afraid to take on projects around the house. He also taught us to not be afraid of a challenge. Most of all, he taught us to be good men. Dad was always willing to drop what he was doing and help his friends. He always set an example for us – sometimes good and sometimes bad.
We are deeply saddened by his passing, and we know he will continue to make “Progress” in Heaven.
Dad was preceded in death by his father, Linoiel G. Hanks, his mother, Rose M. Hess Hanks, and a brother, Darwin L. Hanks.
He is survived by his loving wife, Chong Hanks; sons, Gary Hanks and Samuel Hanks; daughters-in-law, Clarissa (Garcia) Hanks and Camille (Runnels) Hanks; grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah; step-grandchildren, Christina and Gleen Boyett, Casey and Lee Davis; step-great-grandchild, Violet Davis; sisters, Linda J. Guajardo, Peggy M. Graber, and Connie J. Postelli, and brother, Marion Charles Hanks.
