James William Barr, Jr. (Jim) 79 years old, born Sept 20, 1946, in Birmingham, AL, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 14, 2025, in Fort Worth, TX, after a brief illness.
Jim was born to James and Jacquelyn Barr and grew up in the small town of Trussville, AL. He developed a love of airplanes from his dad who flew bombers in WW2 and told him war stories. His dream was to become an Air Force pilot someday. Also, from his dad, he developed a love of building model airplanes, which they did together.
After high school, Jim went to Auburn University and earned a bachelor's degree in aviation management and met his soon-to-be wife, Judy. They graduated together and married on Aug 23, 1969. In that same year, he joined the Air Force and 2 years later completed pilot training. He was then assigned to Minot, ND where he flew KC-135 refueling aircraft.
During that time, Jim was deployed 3 times to Thailand with the KC-135 in support of U.S. operations in Vietnam. He considered it an honor to do what he loved as a pilot, while serving his country at the same time. After 4 years in Minot, Jim moved to Benbrook, TX when he was assigned to Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, TX. There he stayed until he separated from the Air Force and went to work at Lockheed Martin. While at Lockheed, he coordinated all the international air shows in which they featured the F-16 and had the privilege of traveling all over the world.
After 28 years at Lockheed, Jim retired in Benbrook to enjoy his grandchildren and pursue his love of building model airplanes, many of which won awards. He was a member of the Fort Worth Scale Modelers Club where he held several offices for many years.
The biggest honor of his life, however, was knowing Jesus, the Son of God, and that He loved him enough to die for his sins. He faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Benbrook.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy, son Jeb and his wife Beth, son Joey and his wife Jackie, daughter Julie, grandsons Stephen, Jacob, Jonathan, and granddaughter Elena.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Benbrook or a charity of your choice.
