Iva Crowley-Raw

July 4, 1933 — March 27, 2023

Benbrook

Iva Ruth Crowley-Raw died March 27, 2023 in Benbrook, TX after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 89.

Iva was born July 14, 1933 in Justiceburg, TX to parents, Allen Dale Crowley and Geneva Pettigrew Crowley.

A long-time resident of west Texas, she graduated from Texas Tech University in May 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. During her time at Texas Tech, she was a member of the first group to represent Texas Tech in the Border Conference in women’s competitive sports. She finally received her Athletic Letter in fencing during a Tech women’s basketball game in 2004.

She earned a Master’s Degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from Azusa Pacific University in December, 1980. She then went on to complete a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Professional School for Psychological Studies in 1990. Following the completion of her Ph.D., she worked as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist for ComCARE of Sedgwick County in Wichita, Kansas. She retired in 2008.

Active in the church, she was a member of the church choir since her childhood. She also played the organ and piano. When she moved to Benbrook, TX to be closer to family, she sang in the Chancel Choir at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church.

I only revised this one paragraph that read a little rough.

After marrying Michael Raw in 1991, they began to travel frequently. She and Michael visited England on many occasions as Michael was native to Whitby, England. They also took adventures around the world to include France, Egypt, China, and New Zealand.

As an avid bird watcher, she could often be seen walking the neighborhood with a large sunhat and a pair of binoculars. There was not a native bird that she did not know. Most she could distinguish just by the bird’s chirp.

Iva is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Raw, and her grandson, Allen Gaede. She is survived by her son, Carl Gaede and wife Johnnie Gaede, and son, Kyle Gaede; sister, Forrestine Sutton; grandchildren, Jonna Gaede, Ryann Gaede, and Meghan Gaede; and great grandson, Alex Gaede.

Iva’s memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, TX.
