Harry at age 86 passed peacefully in the very early morning of July 9, 2025 after a long illness. He and Paula were married in 1992 for over thirty-two years. Their lives together were focused on family, friends and fun. His hobbies included designing and building wood structures including a deck for his home and card tables for gaming a hobby in later life. He was an avid bird watcher. He was also a Houston sports fan and an avid TTech Red Raider. Harry had two children with his first wife Beth, Vicky and Drew.
Harry was born in Lubbock TX on June 6, 1939. He graduated from Monterrey High School there and was on their city championship football team as a wide receiver catching the winning touchdown. He was invited to join a newly formed band while in high school but declined. That band was Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
Harry’s professional life was primarily as an architect and structural engineer. He had multiple degrees in civil and structural engineering and architecture from Texas Tech and an MBA from the University of Houston. Most of his architectural career was with his own firm but also included Portland Cement.
He traveled extensively in the US and abroad in Europe and the Mid East on projects including a palace in Saudi Arabia. He was a skilled writer with multiple publications.
One of his other strengths was he was well read and liked by almost everyone he met and knew. He was also a good listener which was important married into an Irish family.
He is survived by Paula Scoggin, children Vicky Zoeller and husband Bill, Drew Scoggin, and Kara Touliatos; sister Dorothy Stinnett and brother-in-law Tim Creedon; Harry also leaves behind grandchildren Steven, AJ, Timmy, Alex, Nick and Tori; and, great grandchildren Kora, Kyra, Arya, and Alice.
