FORT WORTH -- Gilbert "Gib" C. Cody, Jr., former Stigler resident and businessman, was born November 17, 1921 in Grelton, Ohio to Gilbert C. Cody, Sr. and Anna Dolores (Shank) Cody, and he passed away November 21, 2014 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 93.
A Memorial Service in Stigler, Okla. will be held at a future date to celebrate Gib's life, under the guidance of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home, Stigler, Okla.
Memorials: As an expression of sympathy, donations in memory of Gib that are made to the Alzheimer's Association would be gratefully appreciated.
Gib graduated from Wilburton High School in 1940 and began college at Eastern Oklahoma A&M. He interrupted his college studies to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 thru 1945 in the South Pacific Theatre of World War II where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1948, he graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and subsequently completed post-graduate hours at the University of Tulsa in the Masters Degree program in Psychology. From 1948 to 1960 he worked for Tidewater Oil Company in Tulsa. He left Tidewater in 1960 to form Twin County Nursing Homes Inc., which licensed and owned the Stigler Nursing Home and the Eufaula Nursing Home. Gib served as its corporate President and Administrator until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Stigler, where he served the church in various capacities; he served as the President of the Stigler School Board; and he also served on the Stigler City Council, both as a council member and as Mayor.
Gib and Billie loved their friends and the community of Stigler, where they spent many happy years working and raising their sons. Gib loved golfing and he and Billie were able to spend many happy retirement years traveling, spending time with their children, grandchildren, friends, and other family members.
Gib was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He truly enjoyed life and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Billie (Prock) Cody; two sisters, Louise Whitworth of Austin, Texas, and Dolores Huddleston of Purcell, Oklahoma; and one infant brother, Paul Cody.
Gib is survived by his two sons, David, and wife Stacie of Tampa, Florida; and Alan, and wife Christy of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Mark Cody and wife, Amber of Katy, Texas; Brent Cody of Fort Worth, Texas; Nicole Cody and Kyle Cody of Tampa, Florida; two great grandchildren, Luke Cody and Cooper Cody of Katy, Texas; one brother, Don Cody and wife, Anne of Calion, Arkansas; and one sister, Virginia Austin of Denver, Colorado.
