Gary Boyce Qualls

Gary Boyce Qualls, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully at home in his favorite recliner on June 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and unwavering devotion to his family.

He was born February 13, 1948, in Knox City, Texas, to Elton and Mary Qualls. He grew up in Fort Worth, where he graduated from Arlington Heights High School in January 1967.

Gary married his beloved wife, Gayla Valkman, on June 8, 1968, shortly before serving in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971. During his service, he received multiple honors, including the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and Sharpshooter recognition. After his time in the military, Gary built a long and successful career at Lockheed Martin, retiring in 2012.

Gary was a man defined by his passions: God and country, family and friends, and a profound love for driving. Whether it was on a zero-turn mower, a four-wheeler, or a jeep over the mountain passes, he loved to drive. For the past 30 years, he and Gayla took road trips to Silverton, CO, just for a funnel cake. His love for road trips was about the freedom of the open road, the joy of the journey, and their cherished companionship, appreciating each mile without rushing.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Mary Qualls; his brother, Bert Qualls; and his sister, Jane Qualls Brownley. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gayla Qualls; his sons, Yancy Scott Qualls (his wife, Kelly) and Clint Warren Qualls; and his grandchildren, Nick Qualls (his wife, Kassie), Abbie Qualls, and Sarah Qualls. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother, Rodney Vance Qualls, and many beloved nieces and nephews who will miss his steady presence and kind heart.

Gary will be remembered for his warm friendships, talkative nature, and deep love for his family. He had a gift for conversation and never met a stranger. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
