Obituary for Frankie Jeanne (Pidgeon) Adams
Wife, Mother, Diaconal Minister of the United Methodist Church
Frankie Jeanne Pidgeon was born in Commerce, Texas, on March 23, 1932, to Frank Crockett Pidgeon and Gladys Rhea Thurman.
She was the oldest child, with her sister Martha Ann and brother Jack Reid Pidgeon joining the family.
Because her father worked for Shell Oil Company, the Pidgeon family moved all over Texas and Louisiana until she was a Senior in High School, graduating from Eagle Lake High School in 1949. Receiving a scholarship to attend Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas, she studied Religious Education.
After graduating from Lon Morris Junior College, she accepted a position at First United Methodist Church in Houston, where she met her husband-to-be, Jean Adams. He was in the Air Force and stationed at Ellington Air Force Base. They were married on November 7 of 1953, in her hometown of Eagle Lake.
In 1958, tthe Adams moved to Ft Worth. They began their family in 1959 with Brenda Kay and in 1966 with Scott Edwin and Sue Ellen.
In 1959, Jean and Frankie became Charter Members of the Western Hills United Methodist Church. Frankie served in many capacities over the years. Teaching Sunday School, directing Vacation Bible Schools, singing in the choir, chaperoning many youth functions and trips and supporting mission work of the United Methodist Women were among her joys. Learning to paint with watercolor was another love of hers and she shared her paintings with her family and friends.
When the “empty nest” was nearing, Frankie accepted a position at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church as Director of Christian Education in 1982. While there, she completed her Religious Education Degree at Texas Wesleyan University.
After working about 10 years, she and Jean decided to retire. They bought a new truck and RV, traveling and camping all over the United States and parts of Canada for about 25 years. Frankie loved traveling and kept a journal of every night they were away. She had journals with a total of over 3000 entries. They especially enjoyed traveling the Lewis and Clark expedition trail.
Frankie lost her life’s partner, Jean, in 2017. She continued to stay active with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She attended her beloved church each week and was able to live in her home until 3 weeks before her death.
Those preceding her in death were her husband, Jean; her parents; and her sister, along with a niece and nephews. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Scott Adams; her daughters, Brenda Tilson and husband Lamar, Sue Rampy and husband James; her grandchildren, Danny Martin and wife Lauren, Taylor Crippen and husband Ricky, Tom Tilson, Colton Rampy and great-grandchildren Hunter Crippen, Kennedy Martin and Baby Crippen on the way. She loved her many nephews, their wives and families and her bonus family Matt, Heather, and Mason Martin. She was also surrounded by a wonderful, caring neighborhood family and her beloved church family and many friends. Frankie loved and was blessed by her caregiver Jennifer, and the family is forever grateful for her love and care.
