Ezra William Paul Miller came into this world on October 6th, 2017 and instantly stole our hearts and filled our lives with so much joy and laughter. He was our rainbow baby and the gift we didn’t know we needed.
Ezra was full of energy and lived life at top speed, barely stopping to sleep at night, but he never seemed to miss the smallest of details and loved to tell you all about it. He never met a stranger, did not believe in personal space, thinking every lap was his for the taking, and had a never ending supply of questions. He was an old soul, wise beyond his years, and though he was all boy, he had a deep appreciation for beauty and especially that found in nature. He was also a self-proclaimed mama’s boy.
Ezra was a kid with many loves. He was quite the Pokémon fan and was obsessed with sea turtles and axolotls, possessing several stuffed versions of each.
He loved to make others laugh with his funny faces, sassy attitude, Dad jokes, and outrageous dance moves. He loved to play with legos and invent and create all kinds of things. He loved swimming and playing outside and equally loved playing video games inside with his siblings. He loved speaking in accents and had a daily habit of drinking hot tea in the afternoon… often while speaking in the accent of the day. On Sundays, however, his drink of choice was coffee. He loved music and wanted to learn to play all the instruments. Any activity he was doing always had a musical accompaniment. If he wasn’t listening to music, he was whistling, beat boxing, singing, or drumming- often two or more of those things at once. He loved to travel and was always ready for the next adventure. He loved any opportunity to fly in an airplane and dreamed of flying planes like his big brother someday. Many of his travels included going with his family to share the Gospel with the nations. In his short lifetime, he was able to go on mission to Mexico 7 times and once to Malaga, Spain.
More than any other activity, Ezra loved to read. He learned to read shortly after he turned three and from then on was rarely seen without a book in his hands. His favorites were books about science, computers, history, and the ocean. He also had a great love and delight for learning and never allowed the challenges he was facing to keep him from growing in knowledge. Even in his final days, Ezra refused to miss a day working on his math fractions and he couldn’t wait to get back to school.
Ezra, our amazing, incredibly brave little warrior breathed his last on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, after a courageous 18-month battle with DIPG, an aggressive brain cancer, currently without a cure. He was a son, a brother, a grandchild, a great-grandchild, a nephew, a great-nephew, a cousin, and a friend. Throughout his fight, he amazed all who knew him with his bravery, determination, strength, and joy. Beyond a doubt, our Ezra knew he was fiercely loved, and now he is in the very presence of Love- no longer trapped inside a failing body, but completely healed and whole, forever doing all the things he loved.
