Elizabeth Cather

March 5, 1933 — March 23, 2023

Benbrook

Elizabeth Mae Cather, most knew her as “Betty”, 90, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023, with loved ones by her side.

Betty was born in Bakersfield, Vermont on March 5, 1933, to Victor Isadore LaCross, and Hazel Marie Stanley LaCross. She was one of nine children who would spend their early mornings working on the farm prior to heading off to school in Enosburg Falls.

Caring for others was one of the best attributes Betty had and because of that, she was able to touch so many lives as a registered nurse. Nursing school is where she met her “one true soulmate,” as she liked to call him, Harry Cather. They married young both at the age of 21 and said their forever vows in Concord, New Hampshire on November 6, 1954. They spent the first few years of their marriage starting a family and traveling to different states due to Harry being an active member in the Air Force. In 1964, due to a job opportunity for Harry, the family and their five children settled down and moved to Benbrook, Texas, and she has resided in her home ever since. After retiring twice, at the ripe age of 70, she eventually gave up her nursing license, but remained a caregiver at heart, caring for her family whenever needed.

Betty was a lover of all things outdoors. One of her favorite places to be, was tending to her own beautiful yard.  She loved horses, listening to Wayne Newton and was an avid book reader. She loved to travel and went on many trips with her family and always made time to go back home to visit her own family up north.

The thing that made her world light up the most, were her grandkids and great-grandkids. She put her family as a priority and always made them feel special and loved.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Cather; son, Vance Cather; daughter, Kristy Wallace; her parents; five brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors: Son, Kim Cather; daughter, Varsi Klatzkin (David); daughter, Tracy Hughes (Leland); sister, Dale Machia; daughter-in-law, Susan Cather; son-in-law, Doug Wallace; grandchildren, Brad Cather, Christopher Cather, Britney Kelley (Brian); Stacy Hughes, Joshua Cather (Danielle), and Tyler Klatzkin; and seven great-grandkids.
