Dorothy Elizabeth Sherony Bernardoni was born May 31, 1923 in Lake Forest, Illinois. She was the third of five children. Her mother, Elizabeth, immigrated from Norway and her father, Dominic, from Italy. Dorothy was raised in Highwood, Illinois and graduated from Highland Park High School. She was married to August Bernardoni on August 14, 1943, in Highwood where they resided for many years until moving their family to Deerfield, Illinois. She was a homemaker who spent her life raising two daughters, Dee and Lee. During her marriage Dorothy was also a “golf wife” following her husband, a PGA Pro, throughout the country on the pro circuit. Dorothy worked outside the home in various retail jobs for many years. In later years, Dorothy and Gus moved to Aledo, Texas to be near their children and grandchildren where she lived out her life. Dorothy and Gus were blessed with 70 years of marriage at the time of his passing. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Faith in God was the strength that guided her through life when difficult financial and personal trials arose. She was a beautiful loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. We will miss her smile, laughter, and presence in our lives. We love you Mom.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, August Bernardoni; brother, Frank Sherony; sisters, Tina Sciarrone and Bertha Caldarelli; and grandson, Joseph Wolk.
Survivors: Daughters, Dee Benton and husband, Frank, and Lee Wynne and husband, Wes; grandson, Jon Wolk and wife, Sylvia; granddaughters, Heather Toops and husband, Eric, and Ashlea Wayne and husband, Jason; and six great-grandchildren.
