Allen Garrard

GRANBURY -- Allen Thomas Garrard went to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 27, 2016, after 80 years on this earth.
Graveside service: At the request of the Garrard family, Allen's service will be private.
He was born in Nacogdoches on Sept. 15, 1935, the youngest of four children of A.V. Garrard and Ruth Melinda Gates Garrard.
Allen attended school in Nacogdoches and played football for the Nacogdoches Dragons and received a football scholarship to TCU, where he obtained his bachelor of science degree in accounting.
After being stationed in Alaska with the U.S. Army, Allen returned to Fort Worth, completed his degree at TCU, and was employed by Texas Electric Service Company. He worked for Texas Electric and Texas Utilities for over 33 years until his retirement in 1992.
Allen Garrard and Judy McClung were married Aug. 13, 1966, in Fort Worth, and lived in Benbrook and later in Grand Prairie. After retirement, Allen and Judy made their home in Granbury.
In his early retirement years, Allen enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Granbury as well as his lifelong pursuit of gardening. He got his love of gardening (as well as his name) from his grandfather Garrard.
Allen professed faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 12 and walked with the Lord all of his life.
Allen faced with courage and determination the challenge of living with multiple sclerosis for over 36 years and later dealt with Parkinson's disease.
Survivors: His wife, Judy; daughters, Marie Cutler and husband, Brian, Cheryl Beavers and husband, Stuart, and Cynthia Garrard; grandson, Joshua Poe and wife, Samantha; beloved great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Poe; grandson, Wesley Beavers; and nieces and nephews.
